Member of the Month 🦋 Baylee Bowen
Meet Baylee
If you’ve taken class with Baylee Bowen, you’ve felt it: upbeat energy, quiet focus, and the kind of consistency that makes progress inevitable. She’s the friend who cheers for your small wins and then asks what you’re trying next.
Their Story
Baylee’s Pilates spark came from her mom, a longtime practitioner. After moving to the island full-time three years ago, she found exactly what she was looking for: a healthy community that fits real life—some days social, some days a quiet reset. One early “whoa” moment was watching Mandi demo a kneeling long-box balance and thinking, no way. With time and practice, she nailed it—proof that steady reps beat perfect conditions every time.
Now, Baylee mixes pre-work Langley classes with sessions closer to home in Freeland, chasing that “I didn’t think I could, and then I did” feeling—especially in, you guessed it, planks (our move of the month!).
Q&A Highlights
What inspired you to start practicing Pilates?
“My Mom ♥️ She has been doing pilates for years and she's my inspiration.”
Can you recall a specific moment or achievement in your Pilates practice that made you feel proud or accomplished?
“Yes, Mandi showed us a kneeling move on the long box where you had to balance a knee on the ball and the first time I watched her do it I was in awe and couldn't imagine having that much balance! But with time and practice I was able to do it! Felt like a huge win in my pilates practice!”
How has Pilates impacted your life beyond physical fitness?
“I moved to the island full time three years ago and it's been great to be part of a healthy community. I like that with Pilates you can go and be social or take some quiet time, and who doesn't like working out in fun outfits and cute socks?!”
Have you noticed any unexpected benefits or positive changes in areas of your life that aren't directly related to fitness?
“Absolutely. I feel so much stronger and confidant in my body. I also have far less back pain from my job now too.”
How do you integrate Pilates into your daily routine, and what motivates you to stay consistent?
“I take a variety of classes, whether a workout before work in Langley, or popping in for a class near home in Freeland, I can always find something to fit my schedule. I stay motivated because I truly look forward to Pilates classes, and the challenge of being able to do advanced moves keeps me coming back, I love seeing what new things I'm capable of.”
If you could give advice to someone considering starting Pilates, what would it be?
“Go for it! Pilates is for EVERY BODY. It's in the ethos of the practice. Take the harder classes too, even if you can only get 80%, you have something new to work on!”
Are there specific Pilates exercises you swear by? Why?
“I love planking. Any variation. I'm always working to get that Cher level plank strength! It's a full body burner.”
How would you describe the sense of community and support you've found within the Pilates studio?
“The community is full of positivity. It's fun to show up together for a common goal of wellness and self care. We all have busy lives so there's something neat about showing up in a space where we all carved out time for self care and self improvement, there's a sense of comradery at Pilates Collective.”
In what ways has Pilates helped you overcome challenges or obstacles, either physically or mentally?
“I've had back pain in the past and Pilates has physically alleviated my back pain.”
If you could describe your Pilates Collective experience in one word, what would it be?
“Empowering”
What do(did) you do for work?
“I'm a Master Aesthetician and I'm the owner of Club Bay | Beauty Bar in Langley. ✨”
Outside of work or your main pursuit, what are your favorite hobbies or activities?
“Well Pilates, of course! I play guitar a lot at home and I'm working on creating a set list currently. My husband, Bo, and I love seeing live music, traveling together, and going to Seahawk's and Mariner's games with our boys.”
Do you have any lesser known talents or passions?
“I don't think too many people know I play guitar and sing. I used to busk regularly in Pike Place Market, I started taking the bus down at 14 and played there for years.”
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your Pilates Collective experience?
“I'm just happy be a part of the Pilates Collective, and I'll see you in class!”
